Being a serene palette fan – I have always been a bit sceptical of loud colours – Maybe even a bit scared & unsure of how to use them. A few years ago we found ourselves in Bo- Kaap, Cape Town. A beautiful 3 bedroom house renovation project. Our client’s only request was to mirror the colourful facades of the historical Bo-Kaap homes in his interior.
We did exactly that. We took inspiration from walking the cobbled streets of Bo-kaap. Making our colour palette up as we strolled. Each room was painted from floor to ceiling a different colour. And from here my love for colour (and dislike for all things grey) grew.
In the world of interior design, colour can serve as a powerful tool for self-expression, mood-setting, and creating dynamic living spaces. While neutrals have long been favoured for their timeless appeal, there’s a growing trend towards embracing bold colours to infuse homes with energy, personality, and vibrancy. From striking accent walls to vivid furniture pieces, incorporating bold colours into interior design can transform a space from ordinary to something special.
If you are thinking of taking the colour plunge – Do it!
If you are a bit apprehensive, start small. Play and experiment – Consider adding pops of colour in your pillows, artwork, rugs. Work up to committing to larger more permanent step such as wallpaper or a painted wall. Take the time to explore different colour combinations, textures, and finishes to find what resonates with your personal style and complements your existing decor. And most importantly have fun with it – because colour is fun!
